After a break we are back with the popular seminar series. This Thursday, September 17th, we invite you to participate in the lecture by Andreas J. Kungl, professor at the University of Graz.

The meeting will inaugurate a new series of lectures and pieces of training prepared for all research workers who want to be up to date with the latest trends in science and expand their knowledge and competences. Andreas J. Kungl’s lecture „Inventing & developing novel biologics: from basic research to company foundation” will be an excellent opportunity to learn from the practitioner how to transfer the achievements of science to the area of ​​business.

Andreas J. Kungl, professor: Inventing & developing novel biologics: from basic research to company foundation.

Abstract:
With the discovery that certain glycans on tissue surfaces and in the extracellular matrix play a crucial role in immune and cancer cell mobilization/migration, a novel path opened for treating chronic inflammatory and oncological disorders. We have developed chemokine-based biologics that antagonize pathological cell-cell communication by disrupting the chemokine-glycan axis which leads to immune and tumor cell infiltration of disease-prone tissues. The scientific background of our therapeutic approach as well as the challenges encountered when moving from lab research to drug development, leading finally to clinical studies, will be touched on in this presentation.
