Virtual Research Institute is an innovative research funding program. It was established based on the Act of April 4, 2019, on supporting scientific activity. The government allocated PLN 450 million for this purpose from the Polish Science Fund and chosen the area of research: medical biotechnology – oncology, as particularly important from the point of view of social interest. The innovative nature of the program bases on the introduction of new rules for financing research. In line with the idea of WIB, members of research groups will use the already existing infrastructure – laboratories, technologies, and equipment at the disposal of their parent research units. The funds they will receive in the frame of WIB, they can destine for financing their work first of all.
The Łukasiewicz PORT – Polish Center for Technology Development acts as the Managing Entity in the program and supervises the implementation of the entire project.
