Start of cooperation with LG Electronics

A new prospect has just opened for cooperation between the South Korean industry and Polish science. On November 4. 2019 a memorandum of understanding has been signed in Wrocław, Poland between LG Electronics Inc. and the institute Łukasiewicz Research Network – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development (ŁUKASIEWICZ – PORT). They declare their willingness to cooperate in the field of materials science and engineering. The memorandum will be followed by the first research contract between the parties. ŁUKASIEWICZ – PORT will deliver to LG Electronics long-term advanced research services, to contribute to LG’s leading position as a global high-tech company.

The purpose of the memorandum is to form a long-term strategic partnership between LG Electronics and ŁUKASIEWICZ – PORT. One form of that partnership will be the analytical support for LG cluster located in the metropolitan area of Wrocław; the other will include a collaboration in research of advanced materials and devices. The electronics industry global giant and one of the leading institutes of the Łukasiewicz Research Network are about to sign the definitive agreement.

New, powerful partner
LG Electronics is a global innovator in technology and manufacturing with operations in 140 locations and a workforce of over 70,000 around the world. With 2018 global sales of USD 54.4 billion, LG is composed of five companies – Home Appliance & Air Solution, Home Entertainment, Mobile Communications, Vehicle Component Solutions and Business Solutions. LG is a world-leading producer of TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines and mobile devices, including premium LG SIGNATURE and LG ThinQ products featuring artificial intelligence.

Network expands cooperation with Korea
– Łukasiewicz as the 3rd largest research network in Europe has the ambition to cooperate with industry leaders and effectively transfer the unique knowledge of Polish scientists to global economy. I am glad that LG Electronics becomes another global brand, that sees the potential of our institute, ŁUKASIEWICZ – PORT. This is yet another company representing the Korean industry we are privileged to work with while developing game-changing technologies. Our current cooperation with the Korean market already covers such issues as robotics, life science and manufacturing, but there is a bigger potential on the horizon. I am truly convinced the trust that we build today will be beneficial in term of the future projects – said Piotr Dardziński, President of the Łukasiewicz Research Network.
For Łukasiewicz Research Network, a Polish public R&D network consisting of 38 institutes, one of the top priorities is to offer versatile services to the industry, both national and international.

Institute tailored for the needs of business
The specific nature of the ŁUKASIEWICZ – PORT institute allows it to undertake joint actions in two important areas of cooperation between science and business – in the field of materials science and engineering, as well as in biotechnology. The institute had already gained trust of such key biotech players as Roche, Pfizer and Amgen.
– Our success in forming research alliances with great companies like LG Electronics is a matter of our business-oriented approach to partners and our reliability – explains Andrzej Dybczyński, Director of ŁUKASIEWICZ – PORT. – The ability of our institute to become a provider of complex, yet integrated research services using a number of laboratories is definitely one of our assets. Another one is our customized approach, allowing us to respond in an appropriate way not only to the nature of international corporations, but also to the particular needs of a specific partner. We are glad that today’s event clearly proofs our potential to create significant value for our business partners.
